Candles / Velas

Last week I finished a course on Web design (350 hours) and these homemade candles were a little gift for my pupils (and they loved them).
La semana pasada terminé un curso de Diseño web (350 horas) y les regalé a mis alumnos estas velas caseras (que les encantaron, por cierto).
126/365 – Smoke. Delicious Smoke.

Had some friends and their children over for dinner tonight, and figured that it was a good excuse to fire up the smoker for the first time this spring. While looking for a shot, I saw some smoke leaking out and trailing around the lid of the smoker by the thermometer (which reads about 25-30° low, according to my digital thermometer). Took me longer than I thought to get the shot, between the random wandering of the smoke and the curves of the lid reflecting everything– I needed a flash to get light onto the smoke for it to show up with enough detail, and glare was very challenging to avoid.
Nikon D7000 w/Nikkor 18-200mm @ 55mm, 1/125s @ ƒ/8, ISO100, on tripod with remote trigger. Single SB-700 at full power, center weighted, 120mm zoom, through a snoot made from an old wine gift bag, above the scene and shooting down towards camera right. Cropping and color adjustments in Aperture.
For what it’s worth, the contents of the smoker were two racks of St. Louis-cut ribs with my stock brown sugar-kosher salt-homemade chili powder rub, and a 10 pound bone-in pork shoulder with a vaguely Mexican rub of achiote, chipotle, cinnamon, cumin, peppercorns, oregano, salt, garlic, and dried orange rind (it being May 5th and whatnot.) Cherrywood and applewood chunks provided the smoke.
Looks best in the lightbox.
